What I Did On My Summer Vacation
in which I know I know it's still summer! but: Greece, Covid, the Poconos, the O'Neill, upcoming gigs and a blueberry peach crisp you should make ten minutes ago.
Hey Hartlist,
I actually don’t remember having to write one of those school essays (What I Did On My Summer Vacation), but it had to have happened, right? It’s like 3rd/4th grade American Experience Staple, right?

FROM THE CHRYSALIS
I saw an Instagram post yesterday about how “Hot Girl Summer” is transitioning to “Practical Magic Fall” and even if a part of me was like how dare you I’m going to the beach, a possibly larger part of me was like Squeeee. Because I love hot sand and cool water and iced tea and fish tacos as much as the next girl, but if you’re going to make me choose? Fall Anything, every time. (Especially if I get to be Sandra Bullock. Or, screw it, Stockard Channing. Or, whatever, as long as I get the house. 2)
So in the name of Back-To-School, I give you: What I Did On My Summer/Vacation.
May it function as a cheeky and powerful spell to get us all Back to School, as in, into further employment in the things we love best. (I did just have my first legit TV audition in many years thanks to the new manager. Thank you to all in the Chrysalis audience who helped me learn to self-tape over the last two years.)
So, ok.
I. The lovely Rockwood Music Hall birthday gig, which you read about/listened to here. One of our best shows ever, invited back, will keep you posted!
II. ‘Iron John’ at the O’Neill Theater Center Incubator Concert (New London CT)
III. Kythnos Island, GREECE
IV. First time Covid! Woo hoo! No pictures.
V. The Poconos gig w/The Wrong Band
VI. Ina Garten’s Peach Blueberry Crisp
I know this isn’t very rock & roll, or even Prog Folk, but I used to write a food blog with my sister and I make this every year more than once and so should you. It is always good and never bad and really easy. My even-more-lazy tips: peel the peaches with a peeler (the boiling water thing isn’t faster), ‘squnch’ the butter/sugar/flour topping by hand, and put the whole thing in one pie plate instead of the fussy individual servings (who has ramekins anyway). Just get your hands on some fruit (literally) and you have summer heaven.
Just in time for Practical Magic Fall.
Love
RH
These are all references to the cult 1998 movie Practical Magic which I actually hadn’t seen until Quarantine Autumn and is not good, but, you know, I get it. I totally get it.
