me & billy joel
in which I use clickbait to invite you to the Winter Gig at Rockwood 12/14, The Chrysalis livestream this Sunday, and other news
hey hartlist,
Yesterday, I confirmed our annual Winter SolsticeTime gig at the Rockwood Music Hall! We will be playing Stage 2 on Wednesday December 14 7:00PM, which is exciting.
Today, a family member forwarded me this e-blast from his SongKick (concert tracking) account:
JUST THE GIGS, I HATE BILLY JOEL
Sunday, 10/30, **3:00PM** Time Change The Chrysalis Livestream 57: HALLOWS1
Wednesday 12/14 7:00PM Rockwood Music Hall - TICKETS ON SALE NOW
Ok, Ok, Billy Joel will not be at the Rockwood with me on 12/14.
OR WILL HE.
Think of the mashup possibilities! “Scenes from an Irish Pub”. “Waltz Home To Vienna”. “ The Green Eyed Piano Man”. “The Uptown Kestrel.” “Only the Good Die Magicians.” “We Didn’t Start the Story About The Horses”. “Allentown.” I could do this all day.
These jokes are only funny if you know all my songs including one I wrote in high school, but isn’t that more incentive to come to what the Irish Examiner once called “an intimate and remarkable version of a holiday show”? In the same article where he referred to me as a “millennial”? Oh, ‘twas a magic night.
Speaking of Ireland, I will never forget finding out that they all call him “Billy Jo-El” (rhymes with “Noel”). I kept getting corrected and I was like “He’s from Hicksville!”
I’m a little giddy as I write this because - I don’t mind telling you - I somehow spent ALL DAY yesterday trying to concoct a newsletter for you and failing. I was going for a meaningful essay about the fact that I finished the modest Catskills Fire Tower Hiking Challenge (!) and also had my first Law & Order audition (ever!) and how I finished a new draft of IRON JOHN and we’re hearing it read on Halloween in NYC while a ten-minute excerpt of my opera the barrens made it into “Fright Fest” at New Opera West in LA tonight(!) and how it’s important to acknowledge and celebrate small milestones…
… and it sucked. I ended up writing two pages about my high school Art History class (?) and ate a lot of kit-kats and you received no mail.
I guess it’s like that old saying: Trust the process; eventually someone will send you a funny email.
Tune in on Sunday at 3PM (not 4!) to hang out and wrap up Spooky Season with me, and grab those Rockwood tickets now because it’ll make us look good Billy Joel will be there.
Happy Hallows2,
Rebecca
will stream on my youtube, facebook, and insta. these ‘scheduled links’ have sometimes not worked, so if you’re not seeing me at 3, get out and try again.
Speaking of the Hallows, in my other life I am offering 20% of packages of three Tarot readings through the weekend (schedule anytime)! Just FYI…
