john harper is not dead

in which we introduce AUDIO to the newsletter, recap august dates, and (finally) share streaming dates for IRON JOHN: an american ghost story!!

hey hartlist,

  1. ok first of all does that audio link work? Because if so, for the first time ever, I invite you into the band’s rehearsal room. Pls enjoy us learning the great Gillian Welch’s The Way It Goes in advance of our Pete’s Candy Store show. (I’m on vox/guitar, Matt is on backing vox/mandolin, Nick on organ. We’re all on a couch, hunched around a laptop taking turns scrolling to read lyrics.)

  2. That’s AUGUST 17, 830PM at Pete’s Candy Store in Brooklyn.

709 Lorimer Street in Williamsburg Bklyn. Vax-only, mask up, come out. Other events that night include an open mic at 5PM and Olli Hirvonen at 930.
    1. I’m also playing a rare solo concert AUGUST 10 in Soho with SoFar Sounds NYC. Get a ticket at that link and they’ll send the mystery location 24 hours before. *This show will be outdoors*

    2. And, finally:

      So - what? You dead?
      No! Jesus.
      Just askin’.
      No I ain’t dead. I do apologize.
But you ain’t really here neither.
No, I ain’t really here. Guess I’m just on your mind.
      Guess you are.

At long last, we are proud to present the presentation known as this, streaming AUGUST 16 and 17 at a link near you. (Info coming)

August 16 and 17 Streaming at a Link Near You TBD
the Manhattan School of Music virtual pandemic blockbuster film production of this musical. A year ? in the making, this features a new ending, a cast of wonderful MSM students (including the first female “lucas”) AND an orchestra of MSM students playing the first-ever-fully-orchestrated score.

Did I hear you say, “But Rebecca, August 17 is the date of your show at Pete’s Candy Store in Brooklyn?” Right you are! Looks like you’ll have to make some choices. JK: if you live in NYC I’ll see you at the gig, there will be another stream in September I hear tell.

That’s the news. Welcome back to the town of Good and the music venues of Brooklyn & Manhattan, and to the fact that this newsletter can now be a podcast whenever it wants. New horizons, baby. See you at one or more of them. #johnharperisnotdead
