FROM THE CHRYSALIS
A couple of years ago I was discussing my life and career with a friend/meditation teacher/life coach/guru, and at some point half-jokingly he suggested I take inspiration from the Hindu goddess Durga.
I was going to include an image of her but there are so many and I don’t, of course, “identify” myself with her image and that’s not what he meant BUT the point is she has a lot of arms.
Ten, to be exact. All juggling different things. (Mostly sacred weapons, but I love the ones where she’s also playing the flute while smiling serenely.)
Maybe she’s able to remain calm because she’s supernatural she’s doesn’t see them as ten different things, but ten different parts of one thing.
I’m not sure I’ll ever reach Divine Serenity, I had to remind myself to breathe a minute ago, but there was definitely a point where I rejected “three careers” (unsustainable misery) in favor of “It’s all Theatre” (delightful). And that was a helpful point.
Out of curiosity, I also googled “juggling tips” while writing this, and I actually think most of them apply. Especially the following:
-Relax, and keep practicing.
-Let the balls come to your hands (haha yes very funny) vs reaching up to catch them.
-Keep your focus on the peak (the highest point you’re intending each of them to go, and where each of them will meet and cross over).
Happy juggling,
Rebecca
I know you already know about this, but enough people have been like “you’re writing a solo show???” that it bears mentioning. :)
