Sunday 9/13 'Chrysalis' set: HOME
"Coming home is terrible
Whether the dogs lick your face or not,
Whether you have a wife,
or just a wife-shaped loneliness waiting for you.
(...) Everything's worse once you're home."
-Bonedog, EvaHD
Hey Hartlist,
The above sentiment is from an (excellent) poem quoted in its entirety during the first creepy car ride of the first creepy scene of the extremely creepy Netflix movie "I'm Thinking of Ending Things",which I started watching last night, thought, "this is creepy", and stopped. It is also, you might say, the Opposite of Me.
I LOVE Home. Home is the best. I love going away... so that I can come home. I love working... from home. I love going out! and then coming back. I love a staycation, a return, an evening in, a dinner party, canceled plans. I get excited when Fall weather comes. I am pathologically nostalgic; all the characters in my musicals spend half their time remembering things. If you look up the astrological sign of Cancer in the dictionary, you'll find my head shot. No lie. * In fact, even at times when everything really WAS 'worse once I was home', I was usually determined to ignore that. Baking helps. I have this cake in the oven right now.
Home can be a lot of things, by the way. I also love touring, and (often) regional acting jobs, though everyone who knows me will agree that I just turn my hotel room into 'home' and have to be coaxed out. I love going to the bar after the show. Ideally, the bar is in the hotel. (Or the theatre, I'm not picky. Remember bars? And theatres?)
Anyway I just came home from a month out of town vacationtining (quarantation?) with my family. If you missed last week's Labor Day set, "WORKING", it was a really good one involving both Donna Summer and cute guests, and you can catch it here. (The sound starts working at 1:40 :))
See you this Sunday at 4PM over on Facebook for a set that I have left until the last minute as usual and which will feature songs of homecoming. I hope you are well and reasonably happy wherever Home may be.
xo
