Sunday 4PM: The Chrysalis #37: THE DEVIL
Hey Hartlist,
Well it's 2021 and the world just keeps on coming doesn't it?
This Sunday, The Chrysalis #36: THE DEVIL
or How We F*** Up
4PM on FB as usual, posted after on insta and YouTube
1. An hour or so ago, before I looked at my phone and learned about the day's jaunt through homegrown domestic terrorism, I was on zoom with a tarot client. (Look at that seamless mention of my lockdown business! I'm getting good at this. Drop me a line if you'd like to book a reading). My client had The Devil card in a prominent position, and I was giving my usual spiel which boils down to No, Not Like That Devil, but Have You Considered Not Doing That Destructive Thing? when I started to have deja vu. This was because I had already given the same spiel twice this week. This card is coming up a lot.
2. I've been listening to the podcast 'Chameleon: Hollywood Con Queen'- It is fascinating. No spoiler I hope, but today I was struck by the fact that the villain in question explained a really vicious prank this way: "I was very angry at my family". Said family was mentioned, earlier on the episode, in this context: "I have to succeed, because I have to show them." (Not an exact quote!! Sorry). How many of us are driven by the desire to "Show Them" - whoever Them is - that we're important? worthy? How many coups bad calls have been made out of that feeling?
3. A few years ago I was at a theatre conference doing a reading of a very very cool folkrock musical which turned out to be known to everyone but me as "the christian rock show". (I'm ashamed to say that I assumed it couldn't be a religious piece because it was ... good.) Now I am either areligious or multireligious depending on how you look at it, but I always enjoy a good chat on Themes Mystical, and one of my castmates and I were talking one night and I asked him to explain to me - like, for real - the Christian concept of The Devil. He thought for a moment, and then said something I've never forgotten. "He's real. But he can't just get to you. You got to invite him in."
We're all dark as well as light, all prone to addiction and sabotage as well as wisdom, health, and creativity. We may want something for the right reasons... or grasp after it believing it can give us self worth. You get the idea. We have it all in us. We can choose How we relate to it. We can choose our actions and our allegiances, and question the things we hear. MUCH easier said than (always) done, I know!!
This week on The Chrysalis, songs n' stuff about grappling with our demons, whatever they may be. And yes, it will still be fun. See you there,
