Sunday 4PM The Chrysalis #30: LOVE SONGS (I know right)
Unacknowledged good turns to shit. - Regina Thomashauer
Look, you don't feel the things you feel, you're not in your body. If you're not in your body, you're hanging out a vacancy sign saying someone else can come on in there and do as they please. You don't want that."
- IRON JOHN: an american ghost story
Hey Hartlist,
Ok two things- one is that I am allowed to quote my own musical because TONIGHT is the first ever production (virtual) of the show, streaming from Temple University fittingly on Friday the 13th (and tomorrow). It's the first time my collaborator Jacinth Greywoode and I have not been involved at all and we are SO CURIOUS. As such I am not telling you to watch it (yet), I'm just telling you it's happening.
Second thing: I'm back this Sunday 4PM Facebook-streaming live for the 30th installment of 'The Chrysalis' and the theme this week is - and I may regret this - LOVE SONGS. I've felt a lot of happiness and exhilaration since our country narrowly (though widening! Thanks Arizona!) snatched Biden/Harris from the jaws of, well, you know. My band and I literally took to the streets, as did so many of us, to make a joyful noise. I've been enjoying the various expressions of glee and relief (by the way if you haven't watched this yet I can't stop)... AND also hearing a lot of hesitation and a rush to temper good feelings, as in "Ok, we can allow ourselves to celebrate for five minutes, but then there's a lot of work to be done."
Again I"m just going to gently suggest as I did last week that we replace that "but" with "and". Let us allow ourselves to celebrate... AND acknowledge the work to be done. More and more in my life I see that feeling good (ie, hope and love) motivates me far more than feeling bad (despair). This week on the Chrysalis we're feeling the love... and also asking.. what does that even mean, in case we've forgotten. See you there.
