Songs from the Chrysalis 8: Leaning (and a new band video!)
Hey Hartlist,
"We all need something decently constant to lean on". ('hard to love' by briallen hopper)
A friend of mine texted me this quote last night. This is happening a lot this week, scraps of inspiration, songs, suggestions, ideas from friends floating in, making their way into my brain, my weekly set, my writing. Old collaborations are resurfacing. Old friends reaching out and being reached out to. It strikes me that during this time of relative isolation, I am both more self-reliant AND in some ways more frequently and widely connected to people at the same time.
The quote from my friend's book went on to say, "Learning how to lean might be the primary ethical problem, the all-encompassing question and quest" I love this. I've always thought that the question was more like To Lean or Not To Lean, ie, to be dependent or totally self-sufficient. Of course that's not it. It's choosing what/who to lean into, in a way that makes you strong and "leanable" in return, instead of, say, falling over.
What are you guys leaning on these days?
Since this is my newsletter and not a book of essays I'll leave it there, except to say that music is one of my best 'decently constant's and I'm happy to be leaning into it every Sunday at 4PM on instagram AND facebook live. See you Sunday!
